Taste and See

O taste and see all things He has done
theres nought but good in our LORD,
His gentleness touches every life
and took our place on the cross for us.

He takes the shame when we yield to Him
all sin and grief is buried from sight…
He speaks to hearts and calms all fear,
and stood in our stead and bore our sin.

Do not grieve nor hold to your guilt and sin,
but leave it all at the cross of the Fathers Son
Jesus gave His life, His all, for you and me
and lives forever and reigns on high.

You can take joy in what I tell you here,
for the LORD will hear your every plea…
His sons and daughters, yes, we are His heirs
and takes us by His hand to lead us home.

Trust in this LORD, our God and King,
for no one can match His worthiness
Take Him for what He says He is
and know He is the LORD of lords.

Rumours

2 Thessalonians 3:11 – For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

1 Peter 4:15: But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.

Rumours are harmful, and no one should take rumours as truth but place it in the Lords hands, seeking His wisdom and truth. Even friends and family dont always know the truth of rumours and we need to protect each other in love by stopping rumours as they occur. Rumours do injury to the innocent and encourage mistrust, which in turn, ruin relationships with others.

God is our judge and counsellor, and if one of His children needs counselling and discipline, He will instruct and administrate. We have no right to judge anyone on others hearsay.

Rumours seemed to be present in most churches and ministries and as leaders we need to seek out the truth before we give discipline to the wrong person or persons. Discipline and action should be according to the deed and under Gods instruction.

The old saying: nip it in the bud means to stop something before it grows or gets worse. Its kind of like nipping a flower when it’s still a bud so it can’t grow. We as Christians can nip a rumour in the bud before it becomes uncontrollable and causes harm. To pass on hearsays or word-of-mouth tattle-tales, is immature and falls short of Christ in us.

Words can be powerful and very harmful. Proverbs 18:21 says: Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

We need to check our hearts and protect our brothers and sisters in Christ. Close your ears to rumours. Nip them in the bud, and if need be, check some details yourself and clear up any rumours that are causing harm against your brother/sister and love them.

Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Father, help us to keep our tongue restrained and stop rumours before they do harm. Give each of us a heart of love for all our brothers and sisters in Christ and protect relationships with truth and honesty. Keep our hearts pure and give testimony to it. Amen.

Behold!

Did you know that the words Lamb of God as a title of our Lord, occurs twice in the Gospel of John and once in 1 Peter?

However, John uses the same title in Revelation about 30 times. Its clear that The Lamb of God would have meant a great deal to John who leaned on Jesus and knew the secret of His Redeeming love perhaps better than any of the twelve disciples.

In John 1:28-30, we see the Apostle Johns first use of the phrase when he quotes John the Baptist in the lead up to the baptism of Jesus. These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing. The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said, after me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

Peter doesnt use this title directly, but in speaking of our redemption from sin in 1 Peter 19 :18 he says Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, even the blood of Christ色

With all the names of Christ used throughout the Bible, The Lamb of God would without a doubt, touch me the most deeply. None speak more strongly of our deliverance from the slavery of sin. I can only capture a glimpse of how John felt about our Saviour.

Is it redemption that we desire? Then it must be redemption by the blood.

The cross of Christ is the only hope of the world. A world that often declare things like behold our new methods, behold our human-brotherhood or even, behold this new opportunity and forget the only real cry that needs to be boasted Behold the Lamb of God.

John 3:16 says:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Contented

Hebrews 13: 5 says: Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

My grandmother used to have some funny sayings that left me wondering. One of these sayings was: Im as contented as an old cow put out to pasture. It was like she was trying to teach us something but I was too young to understand.

We all understand contentment in our own way just as we are all different in our own likes and dislikes. Contentment is a satisfaction or an accomplishment in something we have achieved, or in life itself. I would be surprised if my grandmother hadnt found satisfaction in her senior years.

Ive met people who are never contented. They always want the greener pastures just beyond the fence. And, although striving for a better job, a better lifestyle or a better future can be a good thing, we need to be careful about how we achieve our goals.

Do we allow the temptations of cutting corners, taking advantage of others or neglecting our priorities in our attempt for a better life? Do we compromise our Christian beliefs or familys needs? We need to take a good look at our actions and the motives behind our actions to get to where we want to be. Sometimes we need to take a step back and be contented.  If we allow God to use what we have He will take us forward into the desires of our hearts, if its in His plan.

1 Timothy 6:6 “But godliness with contentment is great gain”

Author and Designer

Oh the beauty of the valley,
Swept with the new days mist
Timeless splendour through rolling hills
Capture the essence of creation.

Mountains rise above the plains,
Casting shadows like a caressing hug
Calmness enfolds the perilous terrains
Mirror the heart of their designer.

Distant thunder announces the rain,
Freshness rises to the clouds
Soundless rhythm of the breeze
Captivate the plan of each formation.

I can almost hear the angels sing,
Hundreds praise the name of the Lord
An endless chorus fills the air
Praise to God, the founding author.

Promises

Romans 8:38-39 – For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This is one of those passages of Scripture that lingers in the air and echoes in the mind long after its been read. There is nothing that can separate us from the love of God. Thats one reassuring promise. Theres no one else who can make a promise like that and keep it.

Have you ever had someone make you a promise and not keep it? It hurts; especially when if someone made it you thought you could trust to fulfil that promise. Perhaps time overwhelmed them or situations changed, but it still leaves a sense of being totally rejected.

Have you told someone you would do something and didnt follow through? We need to be careful what we promise. I remember one time when my children were little that I had to break a promise in relation to a birthday party venue. The venue had changed owners and I was unaware of changed circumstances. I was no longer comfortable taking my children on the premises with its new clientele and their disturbing behavior. I broke a promise and had to explain my reasons, but as children are, I still broke my promise. I eventually found a more suitable place that the children were delighted with but from that time I usually added the words: unless something unforeseen happens and if its Gods will.

Promises of love can sometimes lead to devastation. Norm and I have had many friends over the years whose marriages have ended often in ugly divorces. Their ultimate reasons were usually based on broken promises. How sad.

Gods promises to us can never be broken and when I see God’s handiwork in the stars, breathe in the ocean air, take in the endless mountain views or the beauty in the land, I think how awesome his love is for me. Knowing that nothing or no one can stop that love is precious and eternal.

Oh Lord, the God of all creation, I praise your holy name. I am thankful for your overwhelming love for me. Your promises from Scripture fill me with hope and joy. Thank you for Your truth and honour that reigns forever. Amen.

Just a Little

Just a little
of Your holiness,
Just a little touch
of Your gentleness
Brings healing to my soul.

Just a little
of Your inward peace,
Just a little
of Your purest joy
Brings freedom to my soul.

Just a little
of Your glory revealed,
Just a little
of Your Word of life
Brings knowledge of Your love.

Trust

Hebrews 12: 1-3 says: Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

Sometimes life finds us in a place where we dont want to be or in a place we dont understand. Yet God knows why we need to be there and for how long. Saying you trust God is not as easy as actually trusting God.

God supplies all our needs, including friendship. He places people in our lives at different times and circumstances. Sometimes relationships put us through hurts and pain and we find it difficult to trust again. Jesus himself had friends turn against him, but he still trusted his heavenly Father. He trusted God no matter the circumstances.

Situations change again and again through time and circumstances. We need to step out in faith and allow the Lord to close one door so He can open another. Theres no shame in daring to hope but Gods plan is made for our benefit so His glory can be revealed. Our Lord will never leave us. He will take us and move us forward in a strength, which we once had thought we had lost forever. He will supply all our needs. We just need to trust him.

Jeremiah 17:7 says: Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

Father, you are always with us and you know our every situation. You know exactly what we need at the very time we need it, and who is needed to guide us through.  You also know when we need to let go and step out in faith, trusting in new a tomorrow and thank you for opportunities to know true friendships Amen.

A New Dawn Rising

Echoes of early birds twill fill my ears,
Gleams of sun rays kiss my face,
Fragrances from the dew-fresh grass tease my senses.

Opening my eyes, I see a crimson sky
I can almost taste the sweetness of the early morning;
Sunlight announces a new dawn rising.

Afraid?

Isaiah 41:10 says: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Are you afraid of anything? Im afraid of answering machines. You know, when you are all ready to speak to someone over the phone and suddenly your listening to a recorded voice that says something like: Please leave a short message and well get back to you.

Your fear may be going to the dentist, speaking in front of an audience or even the fear of spiders. Mmm匈 have to admit I dont like spiders either but whatever your fear is, we all have experienced times in our life when we are afraid.

Todays Bible verse gives us some hope when it comes to fear. It tells us to “not be afraid”. We dont have to be afraid because we have a hope that others do not have. We know that God will strengthen us and help us in each situation that we face.

Our Father knows the future and the past and has boundless amounts of wisdom helps us in even the most difficult of times. God is on our side and He is always walking with us and through any situation that we might face we can see why He tells us to not be afraid. God wont let us down, so we have no reason to be afraid.

Simple? No not at all but when you come face to face with your fear, remember that our Father is always with us.

Father, we thank you that you with us even in times we have to face our fears. Help us to remember the words of promise that You are our God and that you will strengthen us and helps us. Amen

Alone

Isaiah 53:3 says: He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

Do you ever feel alone or afraid? Have you ever been misunderstood or rejected? What about rumours rising against you or lies told about you? Are you or a loved one in pain?

I think every one of us has experienced one or more of the above in some way or other. I know I have and have been guilty of forgetting to hand everything over to the Father. As a young Christian, I often thought He just wouldnt understand, but through His Word and experiencing His grace, I now know He does.

Jesus encountered temptation, fear and exhaustion. He’s been doubted, questioned, misunderstood, insulted, even betrayed and so much more. He feels what we feel. We can be confident, find understanding, compassion and grace, when we seek His presence and step into His throne room.

It’s good to know that we can approach the throne of grace, any time day or night, knowing we can do so with confidence that He will hear us.

Isn’t that awesome?

Father, thank you for being with us in our time of need. Help us to remember that whatever we have been through, you have too. Teach us to read Your Word to findunderstanding, compassion and Your Grace. Amen

Believe

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:18

I grew up in a Christian home and witnessed many answered prayers and God-orchestrated incidents regularly so perhaps believing was easy for me. I accepted Christ as my own personal Saviour and Lord at the age of six. Ive been told it would be impossible for me to remember, but I do. I dont remember every word spoken by the preacher, but I remember the powerful impact they had on me. I also remember the hymn that was sung by the choir. It still echoes in my head, even as I type this memory.

In my early teens, I couldnt understand why my friends wouldnt believe there was a God who created all things. The beauty of nature has always left me breathless and I suppose thats why so many of my poems reflect my love for creation. I couldnt understand why they laughed at me when I told them about Jesus.

Later, in my older teens years and early twenties, I worked with younger teens and again, I was mystified by the lack of faith I witnessed. I once invited a guest youth pastor to a weekly youth meeting.  He was very wise for his age and I was pleased he was because a small street gang came to that meeting. They were a little disruptive but mostly they were just being who they were and behaving the only way they knew how. When the speaker gave the invitation to seek Christ as their Lord, the smirks started. The response by this young pastor has stayed with me all these years and Ive used his words once or twice in similar situations.

He said: Consider for just a moment where you would spend eternity if you were to leave here tonight and be hit by a car or bus, or if another gang attacked and killed you on your way home. If youre not a believer, allow yourself to ponder for a few minutes that if it was true, then what? And if you still dont believe, Ill accept it.

Three of those gang members accepted Jesus that night.

I leave you with the words of that young pastor. If youre not a believer, allow yourself to ponder for a few minutes that if it was true, then what?

Where will you spend eternity?

John 12:46 says: I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

My Eternal Home

To seek His face and sing to Him
Oh! What joy to me it will bring.
Even when my eyes are dim,
I will always be there, with my King.

To sit at His feet or dance for Him
Oh! What music, oh what hymns;
Angels all around the throne will sing
With joyful sounds, on might wings.

To tend His garden and meet with Him
Oh! What happiness this will bring;
Just to know Ill walk with Him
Forever, my eternal home to win.

Hope

Psalm 31:24 – Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.

Colossians 1:5 – For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; which has come to you.

Do you ever feel like giving up? Do your circumstances weigh you down? Being a Christian doesnt mean life is going to be easy. Nor does it mean that nothing will go wrong. We all live in the same world as we did before our salvation, but now we have an overcomer, and a hope for better things to come.

To live in hope gives new meaning to all situations, and believing is the key to hope. Nothing is impossible with God. Nothing is too big. Even in your darkest hour, don’t give up hope. God is bigger than any of your struggles and he watches over you every moment of your lives. He will never leave you and will bring you into that place of restoration and healing. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and hang on to the hope you can have in him.

Father, teach me to trust you in every circumstance that threatens to engulf me. Help me to believe in a better tomorrow and the hope that you have to offer. Show me how to be strong in your Word and live in hope through the promises you have given to me. All of my ambitions hope and dreams, I give to you. Amen
