Strength

Finally, be strong in the Lordand in his mighty power. – Ephesians 6:10 (NIV)

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. – Ephesians 6:10 (KJV)

One verse, two Bible translations. I like them both and couldnt decide which to use, so Ill use both. Its a powerful way to begin the close the book of Ephesians, a letter addressed to a church. If you ever get the chance to read the six chapters, its worth the read.

If you remember anything from reading Ephesians this is the ‘above all else’ verse. The Lord, the one above all else, the creator of our world and gently placed every stay in place, delights in you. He delights in me. He is strong and mighty but also gentle and faithful – always.

Dont think for a moment longer that He doesnt care about you, because he truly does. Take a moment to take that in Read more of the Bible and seek out the strength of this truth. Find a Christian author who has written of their experiences in this truth and listen to the words of Christian music that express this truth. In His presence you will find strength.

Father, thank you for the strength You pour out to us through Your Word, through the inspiration of others and through Your Truth in music that is so freely available to us. Help us to be strong in Your power and might. Amen

Fear

Revelation 14:6-7 – Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earthto every nation, tribe, language and people. He said in a loud voice, Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

I dont often use verses from Revelation but I like these. What does it mean to fear God? For the unbeliever, the fear of God is to fear the judgment of God and eternal death. As believers, fear is reverence of God.

Hebrews 12:28-29 says: Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.

Im not scared of God. As a believer I have no reason to be scared of Him. I have His promise that nothing can separate me from His love.

Romans 8:38-39: For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Fearing God means to have such a reverence for Him that it influences the way I live. This reverence and admiration of God is what the fear of God means for me as a Christian. This is the motivation for me to surrender my whole self to God, the Creator of the Universe; the key to serving the Lord with all my heart and with all my soul.

Father, I worship You in awe of Your great love for me. Thank You for the key to being able to serve You in my daily life. I give You all the glory and worship You, the Creator and God. Amen

Humility

Matthew 18:4 – Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Humility speaks to me of meekness and being humble. I often think Im not as humble as I ought, yet humility is a requirement of our faith.

I have seen the way the Lord works in the lives of those who show humility in what they do and say and, quite often, how they demonstrate their kindness to those around them. I see the rewards of their actions and the gentleness they demonstrate in their everyday lives. In whatever they do, their actions speak the humility they possess.

Ive also witnessed the fall of the arrogant and proud. Too many successful leaders fall because of pride. They allow success to be their ambition rather than Christ their goal. They begin to believe in their own ability rather than Christs through them.

So how do we keep a balance?

Without Christ we are nothing and because we have Christ in our lives, we have worth and purpose. There is nothing wrong with feeling good about what Christ has done for us but we need to realize he doesnt make us great.

Be willing to live the success that God has given us through humble acknowledgement of the source.

Father, show us how humility can speak through us by our actions.Help us to live humbly and to your purpose and keep from being proud and haughty, but demonstrate the true source of our abilities. Amen.

Rumours

2 Thessalonians 3:11 – For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

1 Peter 4:15: But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.

Rumors are harmful, and no one should take rumours as truth but place it in the Lords hands, seeking His wisdom and truth. Even friends and family dont always know the truth of rumours and we need to protect each other in love by stopping rumors as they occur. Rumours do injury to the innocent and encourage mistrust, which in turn, ruin relationships with others.

God is our judge and counselor, and if one of His children needs counseling and discipline, He will instruct and administrate. We have no right to judge anyone on others hearsay.

Rumours seemed to be present in most churches and ministries and as leaders we need to seek out the truth before we give discipline to the wrong person or persons. Discipline and action should be according to the deed and under Gods instruction.

The old saying: nip it in the bud means to stop something before it grows or gets worse. Its kind of like nipping a flower when it’s still a bud so it can’t grow. We as Christians can nip a rumour in the bud before it becomes uncontrollable and causes harm. To pass on hearsays or word-of-mouth tattle-tales, is immature and falls short of Christ in us.

Words can be powerful and very harmful. Proverbs 18:21 says: Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

We need to check our hearts and protect our brothers and sisters in Christ. Close your ears to rumours. Nip them in the bud, and if need be, check some details yourself and clear up any rumors that are causing harm against your brother/sister and love them.

Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Father, help us to keep our tongue restrained and stop rumours before they do harm. Give each of us a heart of love for all our brothers and sisters in Christ and protect relationships with truth and honesty. Keep our hearts pure and give testimony to it. Amen.
